Twigs General Store

Since retiring in the hills of Kentucky, we have just loved being back home near family. With my pattern line expanding so much and growing I have always dreamt of having my own shop. Little did I know that nestled in the rolling hills was an abandoned olde general store just 3 miles from my home.
I have literally driven bye it too many times to count and never even thought of it being a store until my good friend Darlene said, “Tiff you need that building for your store”. Well the rest was history.
After contacting the lady who owned it, she offered to rent it to me. I got so excited. When I went to finalize the deal she said she had changed her mind. I was soo crushed. I just prayed about it and a few days later she called me up and offered to sell it to me. I was THRILLED and took her up on the offer. I purchased the Olde Lacie General Store for $10,000.00 granted I knew that it needed a lot of tender loving care but I was up for the job.
The building was build over 100 yrs ago. It has hardwood floors that were covered in old oil, for they used to toss oil on the floors to keep the dust down. My goodness we sanded those floors from sun up to sun down for 3 whole days. Thought they were never going to get purty. But hard work sure does pay off.
When we purchased the store it was 4 rooms. One main store area with a built in bathroom, then 3 tiny work rooms on the side. My Friend Susie and I thought we needed more room so one day we took a hammer and just tore down one wall. My how it made the room so much bigger. It wasn’t too much longer that we knocked down the 2nd wall and now have one big huge work room.
We have had the floors jacked up, but the old store is leaning so much that they said there is no way to get it even, but its PRIMITIVE.
We have had all new electric, all new plumbing and had the Amish come and tear out the front and put in all new windows and doors. We have had the whole front with new siding, we added a new porch and began painting her a wonderful taupe color.
While tearing out the old shelving we found a window that was covered up on the back wall, it looks so pretty now. The ceiling was covered in drywall that had a few bad spots, DH, was afraid to tear down the drywall for we didn’t know what was under it, but I went ahead with my heart and tore them down, to find the most beautiful tongue and grove wooden ceiling. We just painted them, only have one piece of wood that had to be replaced.
So after months of sanding, painting, staining, building a bathroom, basically gutting the whole place, We opened the doors of Primitive Blessings by Twigs n Sprigs on March 11th, 2004. (my 34th birthday)

So far we are having a grand time of tending shop. We love creating new wares for our customers and I enjoy designing most of all. So make sure you stop by any ole time to visit us we would sure love to meet ya!
